Join us in the Willoughby Historic District as we recall the days of steam engines and electric trolleys. Learn about the Cleveland, Painesville and Eastern Railroad, the CP&E: Willoughby’s own beloved electric trolley line that ran from 1895 to 1926. Visit the interurban club to be headquartered at the Masonic Lodge, where you can grab a snack and watch train-related videos.
Across the park, you can view model train layouts at City Hall and Willoughby-Eastlake Tech Center or ride Lolly the Trolley, a motorized trolley reproduction, to see live steam exhibits at Willoughby Coal and Garden Center. While you’re here, take a walk around downtown and enjoy our architecture. Most of our buildings were constructed in the 1880s and we have more than four blocks listed on The National Register of Historic Places. The CP’E car barn and power station remain; both seeing new life as a microbrewery and Italian restaurant. Willoughby Coal, situated between two major rail lines, was built as a flouring mill in the 1890s and has retained much of its historical integrity. We have plenty of free parking throughout the city and Lolly will make convenient stops at our shops, restaurants, and parking lots. "I am a person with a very active inner child.
