I have been watching for this for almost 2 years now.

http://qsisolutions.com/products/q-ucs2.html

Anybody out there know about it? Any QSI reps? I run DCS and thought it might be the answer for me to install in other makes and fix some campatability issues, Joe

I have emailed them about this product twice in the last two years the first response I recieved was that it was to be released this feburary. I again emailed them in feburary and was told that it is still a viable project but was on the back burner due to them finishing up other projects.

I don't mind waiting as this is the nature of this industry, however I hope that when they finally release it that it DOSN'T have the one second horn delay that thier DCC chip has and that it has a smoke option in the first release or I will have waited two plus years for nothing.

What exactly is this product? It doesn't really explain it on the website.

Phil, it's a aftermarket decoder with sound that hopefully will respond to the majority of command systems out there. Once installed I think you would be able to take an engine and place it on anyone's layout. QSI is the brand inside of MTH, and Atlas Gold engines. They have great sound packets, and are more robust than a lot of after market brands. I think you won't need a flywheel for speed sensing (maybe wrong there), and probably have higher amp draw handling. Just speculating until final specs published, Joe

At the July, 2005 NMRA National Convention (that would be 3 years ago) I was told by QSI that the Quantum UCS board would be released "in about 6 months." They had a mock-up there (looks like the same one pictured on the website) but it was non-operating. At that time it was promoted as a TMCC conversion board but with all of the QSI sound options. No cruise control was included. If you look at the photo, the Lionel TMCC radio board is on the top left.

If the proposed product has the TMCC receiver then it can work under TMCC or DCS (with a TMCC Command Base connected). It would need electronics to bypass the receiver board to run on DC. I don't see how it could work under DCC.

Then again, if you're never going to actually release it, I guess you can claim whatever you want. Roll Eyes

My prediction is that you will never be able to buy this product because it will never be produced.

QSI was originally involved with the PS1 engines from MTH. However, QSI and MTH have gone their own ways and their relationship seems to be fairly hostile today. I would doubt that they could release a board that is DCS compatible without getting into legal troubles with MTH. Anyways, QSI seems to be more interested in their new products for DCC and Radio Control for the G gague market at the moment. Plus, I still am waiting for the plug and play boards for the Atlas O locos.

Thanks guys. Glenn is correct in saying that MTH and QSI do not get along. I guess what they are saying is that it will run under TMCC and since the DCS system can control TMCC in command mode it will be able to control this system too.

Bob, you're probably right but I have always felt that it would be possible for someone to create a board that can detect what system it is being run on and work under that system. I don't think it would be very difficult to design circuitry that detects either the TMCC signal or the DCC signal or even the DCS signal. However, if it detected the DCS signal without a license you know MTH would be highly upset to say the least. Even if it is just TMCC I hope it comes to market someday.

If it will operate with TMCC and DCC, I will likely buy several of them. This one has been in the works for several years. SmileSmile
