DCS, can work very well on two rail layouts. It only has trouble on reverse loops. Most any engine can be converted to two rail. Diesels are generally easier than steamers, to convert. Replacment wheel sets, for most diesels, can be acquired from North West Short Line. Four wheel two rail trucks can be had from Weaver. I have tried them on a Lionel F3, K-line diesels, MTH diesels and of coarse 3 rail Weaver diesels. Steam locos, will need to have the drivers turned down on a lathe. I did my 3rd Rail Bigboy, with a combination of a drill press, a regular Drill motor, My bench top belt sander, some files, and an NMRA track and wheel gauge. Lead wheels and trailing wheels, can be had from NWSL. There is a fellow on this list, that does the driver work. I normally take my 3 rail locos apart, down to the chassis with the running gear still in place and send it to him. I remove the TMCC electronics, so it is not damaged and send the chassis to him. He has been charging me $40 per driver axle. I have been very happy with his work. If you decide you want to use his services, let me know. I can put you in contact with him.

Anything can be done but is it worth the trouble? Pick DCS or DCC and just do it, once the layout is running you'll not care which it has! Sell the 3 rail locos and buy 2 rail locos and save a lot of energy.....dave |
