I am in the middle of a kitbash of an open autorack. I need help in obtaining drawings and measurements for the flat cars the racks sit on. I esp would be grateful for those low floor flat cars that many of the RR used such as the prr and the NYC:

I know the flat cars the autoracks were placed on was as diverse as asking for boxcar drawings but this seems to be a subject with limited info.

IF I can't come up with anythign I might have to settle for this design:

Thanks in advance.

I remember reading something about those Paragon Racks being set up on 89 foot low level flatcars. I'm gonna keep looking in my dozens of books.

This might be of some use: http://prr.railfan.net/diagrams/PRRdiagrams.html?sel=flat&sz=sm&fr=. Maybe the F48 would have been a good candidate for Trailer Train to convert?

Thank you for the links. Unfortunately for me the flats are post PRR design.

those pix you show are very similar to the prototype used in the Quality Craft kit from years ago. get your hands on the plans from the kit and you should find an answer.

While scanning for something entirely different, I happened across a plan for a 89' Tri-Level Auto Rack Car by Thrall Car Mfg. Co. in the April 1966 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman. Let me know if you would like a copy.

Paul R . Yes I would like a copy. IF you can, Scan me the plans and email me to my address in my profile. IF the file is too big, place scan on word and adobe it prior to e-mailing me.

Thank you very much! Big Grin

I just emailed you 2 files. The plans were in the centerfold spanning 2 pages. Let me know if you have any trouble with the files. Hope it is what you needed.

Paul r.

THANK YOU very much for those plans. This is what I need. Question though, what scale were the plans made.... HO or N? Thanks again for your assistance in this matter.

I'm glad it helps. It was purely by chance that I happened to grab that particular magazine to flip through the other day. It is from a collection of about 70 really old model train magazines I obtained when someone was cleaning out their basement.

No scale was given, but a rough measurement says its HO.
