So Rich Yoder is doing the Pennsy F22 flat car. It has the coil/elliptic version of the classic Pennsy freight truck 2D-F8.
Now's the time to let him know if/that you would like him to offer some accurate 2D-F8/2D-F12 Pennsy trucks separately. When he does a car that requires special trucks, he usually has additional runs of the trucks made for separate sale... AND he does them in P:48 too. So an email to him might be in order if you're like me and looking to replace your too wide Atlas 2D-F8 with some oh so gorgeous RY Models trucks. Rob M. Question--
What material does Rich use for the wheels on his trucks? Imo, only steel wheels can provide a correct prototypical appearance for scale models. Look at the color of the wheel treads on prototype moving cars or cars that have not been standing for several days & you'll see what I mean. Those who don't care about this point have plenty to choose from, of course, but there are some folks who have a strong preference for steel wheels on their models. woody |

hi guys!
i've asked via email to order me 2 pairs of the pennsy truck in P:48. i have a couple of PRR rolling stocks needing them. hope others will too. yes, i prefer steel wheels over brass, zemack, or diecast material. the tread must shine brightly chrome. not grey dull or yellow or even nickle silver whitish or yellow. i used to think dat the bright tread is due to the whls scraping against the steel rail. no. now i know dat it is due to their constant scraping by rubber/composite brake shoes. actually, steel against steel won't wear the wheel out as much. but of course, when a shoe wears out, the brake beam head (steel) would melt and tries to weld ugly clumps of blue onto the tire. carman |
