Where can I find one, built & painted?

Over the past year or so I've seen several nice looking Kemtron Wabash moguls listed on on eBay. I've seen them listed in either the Toys & Hobbies:Model RR, Trains:O Scale:Brass Imports or Toys & Hobbies:Model RR, Trains:O Scale:Other Manufacturers categories. If you set up and save a search on "Kemtron mogul" in those categories, when one is listed eBay will send you am email alert. Another likely place to find one would be at on a table at one of the larger O scale shows such as the February O Scale West show in Santa Clara CA, the March Chicago show, or the upcoming O scale National Convention July 23-26 in Worcester. Mike,
I would be careful about that purchase. The kit was a superdetailed craftsman kit requiring considerable skill to assemble. There are stories about that if not done right they do not run well at all. It might be best to look for one at various trains shows where they might have a test track to check it out. Look for wobble or jerky movement at all speeds. If present it means drivers out of quarter, or rods not right. I would be cautious of buying one without seeing it run first. prrjim |

Last year at the Kimberton meet a buddy of mine picked up this exact model in running condition but many parts missing. We have accumulated most pieces and it's going to be a standout.
What I cannot figure out is....who has the patterns for this loco ? It would be an instant seller and as has been mentioned before you need good soldering skills.... ![]() Stan Windrim |

Precision Scale lists a number of the Kemtron Wabash mogul parts in their catalog. One may not order parts through their website. They encourage customers to purchase the catalogs.
It helps to have their O scale loco and car catalogs as there are a great many parts available. Since Precision Scale has a many old patterns, I think they make up some parts as orders come in for them. When enough of these requests accumulate, another 'pour' of molten brass is done to make them. Ed Bommer |

Kemtron was owned by Levon Kemolyan (I am not sure of spelling). But he purchased the MAX Grey line from Max and it became US Hobbies. I think somewhere along the way, Precision Scale had an association with the firms. Either as a direct descendent or as a strong business partner. I think many of the castings on US Hobbies Locos came from Precision Scale.
When Levon Died, Westside Models picked up the import business. They didn't seem to last long after that. P&D hobbies bought some of Kemtron Diesel line at some point and marketed the RS-3 kit. They still sell many of the parts for this kit and other diesel parts. Not any steam parts of their own, but a large stock of Precision Scale parts. |

What gauge interests you ? I have Kodama,Overland, KTM, and some custome made locos. All the above run smooth and quiet.
Whatever you purchase...try it first..! If you are not comfortable with brass go to some train shows and ask questions, look at how neat is the soldering.... Stan Windrim |
