I'll look forward to meeting you there Hugo. Maybe I can even drag Phil along with me!
I'll introduce you to some of my 2 rail buddies, John Dunn and Buzz Burnley, they'll have modules set up there.

I hope the Gent who sold the O scale interior diesel details from overland/PSc will be there. I am looking foward for some more unique cab interiors. anyone know his name? When I went to Parsippany two years ago he stated he does all the O scale conventions.

You may be referring to Bill Davis from Wisconsin. He always has a lot of PSC and OMI parts at Chicago, Indianapolis, and the O scale convention. Bill advertises in 48 Ft / O scale news as American O Scale.

If it's Bill (brassmonger) he's been selling a lot of them on eBay lately and has a few listed now. He seems to have a direct connection to OMI and gets most of their old stock whenever they decide to clean out the closets.

Speaking of dertailed parts. is there anyone who has pics of all the PSC parts? Neither PSC'c Cat have all drawings and/or pics of their product ines. Sometimes I discover their parts at train shows. This would greatly help me in my kitbashing projects.

Has anyone seen a detailed list of which clinics will be held on which days?

For a national convention this is vastly under reported.

I can't find a schedule of the clinics on the O scale National website. However, it wasn't detailed but there is a list of the clinics in the newest issue of OST. I would post the info here but my copy is at home.

I am very new to O Scale. Does one have to be a member of any specific organizations to attend the dealer sessions or are they open to the public?

The O Scale National Convention is open to the public. The Convention is held in a different town every year. I think next year it is in Baltimore, MD.

Maybe you were thinking of the York Eastern Div TCA meet in York, PA. At the York meet you can go once as a guest but after that you must join the TCA to be able to attend that meet.

Thanks, Hudson. I wrote to the e-mail contact for the show but he has yet to reply. I'll be going through Boston on my way to Maine during the show and wanted to stop in if it was open to the public.

Hi,

I will be there for the entire convention and will have a display of some of my converted models in the Vendor Room. I am also presenting my clinic on 3 rail to 2 rail conversions of locomotives on both Thursday and Friday.

Here is a photo of a set of MTH B&O E-8 Units I converted for my own use over this past weekend. In the process, I lowered the bodies about 1/16" of an inch over the trucks and replaced the swinging end steps on the ends of the car bodies with PSC EMD step castings. They are soldered onto the steel frames of the engines and fit perfectly. I am very pleased with the operation of these units as 2 rail DC motive power and they have been pulling a fifty car freight around my layout with no problem. Now I have to get my GGD B&O cars out!

For a National Convention there isn't any buzz about this at all. Last post was July 7.

Friend and I are driving up Thursday morning, want to see the sales floor and the large modular layout promised. Will return to Jersey Thursday evening.

Cucumber,

Phil (Hudson J1e) is correct. The 2009 O Scale National Convention is in Baltimore, Maryland. It will be held starting June 18, 2009 at Towson University and is most certainly open to the public. The convention will feature vendor tables, clinics, a model contest, layout tours, historical presentations, visits to area RR attractions, etc. It also features very reasonable dorm room accomodations at the University - meals included!

The 2009 O Scale Convention Committee does have a table at this week's 2008 O Scale Convention. Stop by to learn more. We'll be next to the Third Rail table.

Jerry, thanks for the info. Looks like I can't make it this year. A buddy of mine is going on Thursday and I could have car pooled with him but I thought he was going on Friday and I bought Met tickets for Thursday. Oh well, Baltimore is closer so I will wait for '09. There's a great bunch of O scalers in MD and I have had the pleasure of meeting some of them. I look forward to seeing them again.

Only was able to go Thursday and come right back. There was very, very light attendance and few sales also, but this was the first day. There were perhaps 10 contest models showing which was light.

I, however, made up for the attendance and poor sales by spending mucho dinero. The convention cars were a must-have and Rich Yoder had his 10k tank cars in so I picked up mine. And all the usuals, Atlas, GG/Third rail, P&D, Norm's, the detail parts and book sellers, etc, were there. Can never have enough books and detail parts.

From what I saw, there were no new "big announcements" made for new locos or cars.

Having a huge hall was a big plus, just fantastic. The modular pikes were great as usaual.

I personally thought it was light on brass but being that the show was pretty far east and north I didn't expect to see any of the folks from the deep south (John Clemens) or any Californians. And I sort of expected to see AM hobbies since they are (supposedly) now the largest retailer of Atlas product, but they were not there.

The only thing I see that could be done is to publish the list of vendors before the show. This would likely never happen for philosophical reasons.

Oh, the clinics were excellent, at least the 2 I went to. I couldn't catch Joe F's clinic, but Don Smith's weathering with acrylics was awesome as well as Dennis Lyon's O scale busses. Don is a true artist and he shared his secrets very nice. And Dennis went through dozens of bus styles that have been done in O scale, both private and RR ownership... and he's a bus driver to boot.

IMHO The only negative was the pay parking and the poor signage of the DCU center. Only one side of the building had any signs for "convention center entrance" and there are tons of doors on each side of the business... not good when you get there for the first time and it's pouring rain! Mad

Thanks for the reports, Rob...I almost went Thursday -- my Mother's ill and I thought I'd try and make a visit and a quick stop in Worcester -- but scrapped it at the last minute...I really wanted to see Don's clinic...

A few questions: Did Atlas have the new run of Fs on display? How about the GP7? I've got both of the those on order in Lackawanna...

No new announcements from 3rd Rail? They seemed to hint they may have some new stuff and I have a hunch a DL&W steamer is on the horizon...

Was Rails Unlimited there? Any new offerings in their resin car line? How about Saint Charles? Any wagon top box sightings?

Kinda odd that Weaver passed...they're supposed to be introducing a woodside caboose and I was hoping they may have displayed it...
