Can anyone tell me if Accurate O makes a modern roller bearing truck and if so if anyone has any photos or input on them I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Ben

Yes, they do Ben. And their trucks have rotating bearing caps too. I believe they have 70 and 100 ton versions. Sorry, I don't have any pictures but they do look great! I don't think you'll be disappointed with them.

Dave, there is a fella (I don't know his name) who always sells these trucks at the Wind Gap 2 rail meet in Wind Gap, PA. I know you are on the west coast but if you still need tham at the next meet let me know. I would be more than happy to pick some up for you. Unfortunately, that's the only place I have ever seen them for sale. Sorry to say but I think the next WG meet is in November, however I will get in contact with the guy who runs the show and he may be able to give me this fella's contact information.

Thanks, Phil. I was wondering if these are ever gonna be available in quanity? Seems like they've been talked about for years but never caught on? It would help if the guy would answer his phone or perhaps make an appearance on a web forum to support his business?....dave |

Dave,
Jerry Snow (Accurate O Scale) is basically a one man show. It amazes me how he can stay up with everything he does and offers. He attends most of the major O shows plus runs the brass and import business. I've emailed him in the past with some success but I know he can be slow on shipping. Have you tried his website? Butch |

Looks like his online store is closed.
Dose anyone know if open any time soon? |

Folks,
Since I'm looking for several sets of Accurate O Scale Timken roller bearing trucks as well, I've contacted both places listed. But I've found out that the number for V&W Hobbies has been disconnected and Jim Watson didn't have what I was looking for either. Can anyone tell me of another source for Accurate O Scale trucks? BTW: Are these trucks available in a Proto:48 version as well as standard O scale? Robyn "Stop stop talking 'bout who's to blame when all that counts is how to change." James -"Born Of Frustration" |

Robyn,
I purchased a couple of pair awhile back by simply ordering from the address below. I believe the trucks were first offered for sale around 2005, and like many things in O Scale were limited quantities. They are very nice trucks. The working roller bearing styles offered were based on the Barber S-2 design. 1) Caboose roller bearing - $19.95 2) 70T roller bearing - $16.95 3) 100T roller bearing - $16.95 Accurate O Scale 38623 Orchard Street Cherry Valley, CA 92223 (951)845-5237 accoscale@earthlink.net website was www.accurateoscale.com (currently closed) Try persistence, it often is the only method that works in the rather small O Scale niche of the hobby. Jerry (Accurate O) makes all his trucks with a P48 option, last I knew.
Hope it helps, Brian |

Guys, I will make a bet with you. You will not find Jerry and get your trucks even though he is still around. He quit making P-48 long ago when he got upset with the P-48 crowd. He quit making any trucks when ghe got upset with the rest of us. Ed

I talked to Jerry three years ago at 'O Scale West' and at that time he said he wouldn't do P48 wheels again. Too bad because they were sweet looking wheels. As for O scale trucks, he lost interest in them and moved on to his O scale brass selling business leaving us out in the cold for his quality trucks. Part of the problem was, he was turning his own wheel sets as well as assembling the trucks, easy to get bored. I wish he'd sell off the molds and specs for the wheels. Now that NWSL hasn't found a buyer and wants to retire, quality wheels in any scale larger than HO will be a tough item to buy new.

Accurate O Scale trucks and wheel sets are gorgeous, but not without problems. The flange profile is square, that is, parallel front and rear faces. All other wheels I have seen have a taper on the side of the flange that faces the rail. AOS wheels do not have this taper and as a result are prone to riding up onto the rail top as they go through turnouts (at any speed). NWSL and Intermountain wheels, by contrast, glide through the same trackage with no hint of difficulty. Chucking the wheel into a motor tool and holding a file up against the flange will produce the necessary taper and make the wheels perform as good as they look. This has been my experience; yours may vary.

Ed: Us? Upset anyone? Naaaah. Hope it wasn't something I said... Seriously, I hadn't talked to Jerry in quite a while, so a disappointing update. Brian |

Especially considering that he could have sold a ton of them in P48 since there's no competition....dave |

I suspect that Jerry didn't like the comments made about his "square" flanges. The trucks I saw at OSW were not NWSL wheels. There is a real need for modern 70 and 100 ton trucks in both O and P48. The Atlas trucks are pure junk. A good equalized truck would be ideal for the market. It doesn't need to be sprung to work properly. Too much emphasis is placed upon sprung trucks given the nearly all of the springs are way out of scale and look like crap in the sideframes.
