I am not sure they are still available. If they are, it is my understanding that the print inks are getting very hard to get.
This is what I have been told.

I use the Alps MD1000 and run it through a pre XL computer (use Windows 95). The Alps MD1000 software will not work with XL. Alps is out of business and does not support anything. The cartridges are still available, but the supply is limited and spotty.
I model the Rock Island and decals, especially diesel strips, are impossible to find commerically. The Alps printer is one fantastic tool for the modeling hobby..real shame it's days are numbered.

At one time I had two MD1000 and two MD5000 for printing model car decals. In 2006 ALPS said they were going to stop making the printers and end service by the end of April 2007. In March I tried to send a MD5000 in for repair and ALPS had already shutdown....leaving many of us ALPS users out in the cold...with dead printers. ALPS printers were great...they were about the only printer that would print white, metallic gold and silver and foils. The decals were very nice and the printer made it possible to print very small runs rather than the 100+ you need to do with screen printing. There is a laser out there that will print white but start-up is about $4000+ so it's not much of a option for most. I am now screen printing some decals but not as many as I did with the ALPS.

Are you running the screens your self? How tough is it to do?

Thanks

Outside vendor. Not real hard, did it before, but the equipment to do it right I no longer have.
