Just a few years back I was at a crossroad again. I was struggling with the two rail or three rail thing. Lionel announced an AC6000 CSX with a superbass dummy that was so intincing that it alone almost made my decision for me. Against the grain I went two rail after seeing other layouts and just how good they looked to me. In OST mag recently were some diesel and tank car layout shots that have had a major influence on me keeping my two rail direction.
BNSF (Mike) engine pictures this week of the pumpkin patch is my kind of thing.
This run of OST (#47) has a cover shot that blew me away. It's not even a diesel!!! I figured long ago that if I found an engine that really was a had to have, I'd bite the bullet and have it converted. The trouble with this pic is it wrecks my whole modern imagery. If I move foward and get the cash to get a steamer, maybe it could be some kind of modern passenger retro train? These type of photos can derail me on my modern diesel 2r direction. Stay focused I tell myself. Wow, tougher each day. Joe

How about a steam excursion train or a tourist line? These are both prototypical for a modern day layout. The fun thing about it is these trains sometimes have an eclectic mix of passenger equipment which I think would be fun to model.

2 railer but respectful to 3 railers!
Happy Railroading Everyone!

geez, Enginear Joe, this is a hobby,if you want a steam engine BUY IT. Run it when it suits your fancy. Why do you need a story to sell it to yourself? Just do it...or don't do it.....it's your hobby and it's YOUR MONEY. You don't owe any explanations to anybody. Odd-d

Odd-D,.......How are you doing?

Oh Yes, I think EVERY railroad should have at least ONE nice passenger steam train.

Joe

Hot Water and friends have had a big influence on me. If you are looking for something with class to run with SD70ACes, Dash-9s and F59s look no farther for inspiration than Legends of Steam.

Steam in the 21st century is pretty dang good! I can't wait to see this summers action in High Def. Smile
