I don't see any mention about the sets of six 1950's cars that DiecastDirect recently offered. They look pretty good, and not a convertible in the bunch. A second set is offered, same 6 cars, but in different color combos. Comes out to $5.83 per car.

Joe,
It sounds like you're talking about the M2Machines Auto-Thentics from Castline, Inc. Castline used to make the Muscle Machines car line bought out by Action Performance in 2003. I have the 1951 Ford Crestline, 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley and 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Catalina Custom Coupe and they are all very nice products. Opening doors and hoods, a wealth of detail make them a real bargain for the price. The Mercury and Pontiac are within a couple of scale inches of exact 1/64 scale. The 1951 Ford is actually closer to 1/60 scale, but the real Ford was so much smaller than the Mercury and Pontiac that the oversize Crestline model winds up being about the same size as the others. The Auto-Thentics are being sold through specialty retailers like Diecast Direct but, as I understand it, they will start being available individually at Toys 'R' Us this summer with a suggested retail price of $5.00-$6.00. More 1950s cars are in the works. I can't say what they are at this time, but if they are as nice as this first run, a lot of people are going to be happy. Note: I am not associated with, or compensated by, Castline, Diecast Direct or Toys 'R' Us and the opinions expressed in this post are the result of personal experience and should not be construed as an advertisement or promotion of the products mentioned.
