I purchased the PRR 4 pack and 2 pack heavyweight passenger car sets. According to the Lionel catalog the 2 pack is supposed to come with a baggage car and either a sleeper or coach. Instead of the sleeper or coach my 2 pack came with a George Washington Diner. This makes no sense since the 4 pack comes with a Salmon & Chase Diner. Who needs two diners in a 6 car train. Does anyone else have this situation and does anyone know why this happened. Thank you.

I cant explain why this happenned this way however i will share with you some interesting prototype history involving Pullman operations , the PRR and Diners.

There were some trains on the PRR that carried heavyweight parlor cars in the "club" series . Originally these were Pullman owned , later sold to PRR bur still operated under Pullman contract. The "club" series of cars had a partial diner setup with some tables and a kitchen as well as the parlor seats. They served a menu differrent than the regular PRR diner that was in the train. Passengers on these trains had there choice of restaurants for a meal while on board the train.

The prototype train was certainly more than 6 cars long.

Granted, it does not make sense to have a second diner on a 6 car train. Sounds like Lionel may have simply blew that one.

However, as LIRR steamer mentions, it was not uncommon for PRR trains and those of other railroads to have multiple diners on the train. The Broadway Limited ran a two section diner for a while. But again as pointed out, these were long trains and 20 car limiteds. Few if any of us have that kind of room.

My general pet peeve on any passenger car set is the lack of Pullmans and coaches vs. the abundance of diners, combines and observations. It would be nice to have an all coach or all Pullman ad on pack of 4 cars.
