Today at a local train show I bought a set of 490 491 493 Northern Pacific Alco for 85. the only problem is some sprayed electric green enamel over them you can see everything under the paint. I going to strip and restore hem but I cant find any decal or rubber stamps to do them, I've check Portline RFG and Brassuers, any clue where I can find these.

New to the forum and I see not much response. I looked at my Northern Pacific Alcos and this project is going to be a real challenge just the paint job alone. The decoration is also difficult. Way beyond my ability. I also checked some of my old parts supplier lists to see if ever there was any but no luck.

That leaves custom decals, professional restorers, etc. The only thing I can think of is Microscale has what looks like the correct O scale set and it might be possible to down size it and make your own decals if you can get rid of the blue background. That project is on my list but I haven't got around to it.

That leaves changing road names which is all I ever did on Alcos and call it close enough.

You picked on of the most difficult paint jobs that Gilbert ever did. But like most paint schemes, sometimes it's not just the colors themselves, but the lettering that makes the project even more difficult. Instead of trying the O scale Microscale decals, go to Des Plaines Hobbies and take a look at his inventory of S scale decals. They bought out the Microscale S decal inventory and their website says that they have #64-107 in stock. They're great folks to work with. Just give them a call to see if the decals are actually available.

It's not an impossible project, just a bit of a challenge. Above all, have fun!

Jerry I'll be calling them in the morning, the paint was the least of my worries I be doing custom paints for years and was doing it as a businesses for a time. It was the lettering that worried me once I started searching for it and could not find it. It's a shame what some one did to these you can see right through the thin paint, I post pictures of them in the next few days.........Dziekuje bardzo Ted

Ted,

You're welcome. Let us all know how it turns out.

I repainted a string of 6 Flyer streamliners that I salvaged from junk boxes to match the Flyonel Milwaukee Road EP5 a while ago. I just finished mixing some matching paint for the Flyonel GN EP5 and will do a consist of passenger cars to match it also. It's a 4 color paint scheme and like most custom jobs, the lettering is the hardest part. I'll be using pressure sensitive letters even though the font is a bit off. Or maybe HO decals even though they're a bit small. But since I'm not a rivet counter (at least most of the time) I don't care. It's going to be a nice looking train. By the way, both of them will be running (or at least on display) at the 2010 Spring S Spree in Dearborn (shameless plug). ;>) Hey, have you seen the car we're offering from Lionel? I've ordered two of them. Check our webiste .
