Hi, I'm a winter toy train guy (O and Standard since a kid in the 50's) who just gained a bedroom when my youngest moved out in July. A few years back I picked up a couple postwar Flyer locos and cars to display. Also have some old accessories. That's the limit of my S gauge experience.

I'm thinking of putting a 4x8 S layout in "my" new room (before my wife fills it up with wife stuff). I like realistic track and have TMCC in my O layout. Can anyone suggest reliable, easy to use track, a couple locos, a steamer and diesel with electronic control system? I know nothing about the control systems available. I like the speed control slow operation and all the other features.

Thank you for any suggestions. John, TCA 91-31361

American Models and S Helper Service both make a modern high quality track system for S gauge.
DCC is the normal command control for S scale models but TMCC also works, do a web search for Carl Tuveson to find S scale TMCC info....dave

Thanks a lot men. Seems kind of silly starting over but Christmas is coming.

A curve will fit on 48 inched of plywood but it's better to make the curve not so sharp - many longer trains can't make it

Can you annex another foot or so? - it would be much better

Set it up on the floor before you put it on the plywood.I always got bored quickly with a oval but that's me

Grant, you bring up an interesting point. I'm not at all familiar with track radii in S. I was looking through some websites and trying to find more info and found less than I hoped. I think I'm gonna go to a dealer in nearby Delaware and see what they have to offer.

As far as layout dimensions, my grandson wants to add slotcars which sounds interesting.

If you close enough to Hoquat hobbies in Greenbrook, NJ 08812 you might want to check out what he has. He's along time S scale dealer and I've gotten great mailorder service from him. I think he could tell you the good and the bad points of the various track systems and the advantages of different locomotives...Regards, Dave Branum

The more space you can get, the better. At least 5X9 in "S" scale or Gilbert would be great. Just my 2 cents worth.
