HI,

I just traded some planed cherry (I'm more into walnut...)for some trains. Turns out is was an early Royal Blue set with all the couplers converted. Needs work but I'm happy. The kicker is that there was also a nice 910 Gilbert Chemicals tank car in the box! The car look dull and a little chalky, any advice on how to clean it?

Thanks,
Tim

The "Chaulk" is usually the wax released from the plastic over time(mold release agent). Take a hair dryer and warm it up the affected area, until it turns liquid, then wipe with a very soft cotton cloth to wipe off the residue. Some will use a furniture spray wax(Pledge) to bring the finish back. Spray on the model and use a VERY soft paint brush to gently get into the nooks and crannies. Let dry and you should have an awesome looking 910 tank car! Al

I know what you say is true for unpainted plastic cars, but does it go for painted cars(like the 910) too?

HI,

That was my question as well, but I went ahead and tried. There was some of the substance on the die-cast frame, so I started there. Cleaned right up without issue thought the heat concerned me. Started on the bottom of the car, seemed to work well. Eventually, as I worked around the car, I started to see a trace of paint on my cloth so I stopped. Looks much better but could still need some attention. Any more suggestions?

Thanks,
Tim
