I was working on wiring inside of my 654R w/long trucks and it appears I'm the first to back out the screws that holds the shell on in ages. Well only 4 of the 6 screws were present and every one of the others cracked the mounts. I need some advise on repairing or replacing the shell mounts....Ted

In the MTH dealer parts catalog there are replacement screw towers for their locos, I have never ordered any, but will get one of each size, long and short, just to see if they are usable for any other repairs. Have been getting some MTH Protosound locos with the posts broken off, but I got some longer than normal body mount screws, and these have been helpful. If I make any interesting discoveries, will post here.

I have heard of people putting a piece of heat-shrink tubing over what's left, driving a screw in, and then heating the tubing. The tubing will grab onto what's left of the plastic post, and where the threads are missing, grab down onto the threads on the screws. I've never had to do it myself but it sounds like it should work.

Dave,

Interesting solution. I would have used JB Weld.
