I'm looking for a twin motored lionel F3 A unit. It doesn't matter what road name or if it even has a shell just as long as it has two motors. It can be horizontal or vertical motors as well. It just needs to have been made from 1953 on as I the shell I have is the one that has a screw at the front and two clips at the rear. I'd also like it to have magetraction instead of traction tires if possible. It's for a project I'm working on. I'm looking for the traditional pullmor open frame motored ones not the newer scale ones.

You can make the shells fit an older chassis. It is not all that hard. What has to be done is file away at the rear corners of the chassis to let the clips slide over. Should you end up with the earlier version and the price is right, go for it, I have. A 2355 shell on a 2343 chassis.

I didn't have to do any filing to get the newer shells to fit the old frames. Does take some time though to get it on. Got that tip from the guy that owns Trains and Toys of Yesteryear (or something like that) in Morton Grove, Illinois.

Twin motored Lionel F3 chassis usually go for 130 to 150 on the 'bay.

Hi Louis,

I just picked up a small collection of Postwar Lionel. There just happens to be a 2343 Power A (Santa Fe) unit. There is no Dummy A unit but there is a B unit with the collection. I'm going to sell off most of the items so the Power A unit is available if you want it. I'll check it in the morning to see if it runs correctly or if it has any problems. The chassis is clean with no battery damage. Let me know if you are still interested.

Regards,

LionelFlyer

If it works I might be interested. If the shell is scratched that's ok as I will be replacing it.

Hi Louis,

I checked the Power A unit. The E unit cycles properly and the front motor seems to be turning, although slowly. However, the back motor appears locked. Probably by 55 years of caked in grease. It also appears the last owner did a sloppy job of re-wiring. It undoubtedly needs to be completely overhauled. I really don't have the time to overhaul this piece and re-wire it. If you want it as-is, you can have it for $100 plus shipping (probably about $10.50). Let me know.

Does the rear motor turn or is it completely locked? I'm just wondering. I have no problem taking apart motors and cleaning them but I have no way to rewind them if they are bad. Wiring is easy as I have wiring diagrams.

It means you gotta "steal" your wife's hairdryer, and aim it at the shaft part of your motor for a few minutes...then "It's a MIRACLE"...IT WORKS!!!
