Hi All!! I am looking to purchase a few scale length GG-1 locos. Any of you out there have something for sale?? Used is OK as long as the unit works correctly and there are no appearance issues. Please let me know what you have along with the cab number since I don't want to purchase duplicate cab numbers..
Thanks! Alan This message has been edited. Last edited by: leavingtracks, |

I have an Amtrak GG-1, I will part with, but I think it is semi-scale [to short by some of the later productions]. Lionel 6-18303. Cab number 8303. I have the whole set, engine and seven cars, but I will part it out if need-be. It has been displayed on my shelf, but never run.
My e-mail address is in my profile. Bruce Bikes, beer, and trains make for a good weekend. |

Just for the sake of knowing, how long should a O scale GG-1 be? I only know of Lionels, and I was under the impression that they were to short, that's why I said mine was semi-scale. How long are MTH's and others?

Hi Bruce...as posted by our forum GG-1 "king" Jonathan Peiffer (GG-1 4877), the model should be close to 19-1/8" to 19-1/4" in length to be close to scale length.

Alan, Edna Todd at Todd's Train Depot has a Lionel JLC GG1 for sale as of yesterday. I was visiting and saw it there again and thought about buying it myself. Her phone number is 919-365-5006. |

Thanks Alan. My Lionel is about 14 3/4" long. so that would make it about 18ft to short. It's a lot. I will leave your posting alone now. Thanks for the info.

Alan, Did you get all the 21" ATSF K-Line passenger cars you were after? I never saw any pictures of them on your layout. Hope you will post them.
Were you building a new layout building and layout?? If so hopoe you will post some progress pictures. Thanks, Bill Red Wings 2008 NHL Champions |

Hi Bill!!! Good to hear from you!! Yes, I finally got all of the cars I was looking for and I appreciate your help toward that goal. My father passed away recently and only now have I been able to get back on track. I am working on a new layout and the wiring is about to be in progress. I have finished a couple of structures and might go ahead and post some pictures. It has been so long that I hope I didn't forget how to do so. Hey, when are you going to get on your private jet and head down this way to see where other folks from Michigan are retiring!!?? You could take a trip on my Twin Lakes Central!! Anyway, hope you are doing well...e-mail me once in a while and let me know what is going on with you...By the way, you have any GG-1s for sale!!??
Thanks, Alan |

Alan, Thanks for your reply. Very sorry to hear about your dad. Always tuff to loose a parent. I buried my mom in Memphis about 2 years ago.
I will be watching for your pictures, I always enjoy seeing them. No I don't own any of the GG's. I get down to Memphis on occasion to visit old friends. I might have to head over in the Ozarks and see your train empire. When I was a teen they were doing a lot of building over in the Mountain Home area for vacation/retirement homes. Some people from Memphis , where I was living got involved in the projects over there. Good luck on getting your layout all wired up and ready to run. Bill Red Wings 2008 NHL Champions |

Alan,
I think the fundamental challenge here is that people are supposed to buy GG1's, but sell them? What is this concept you speak of? Seriously check out the evil bay auctions. Any single stripe G can be found for reasonable rates as well at MTH Proto-1. I got the psuedo 4800 MTH Conrail G for $170.00 in June as well as three Weavers in the same price range in April and May. Happy hunting! Jonathan.....What gives you the right to take all of my GG-1s!!!??? Hey...save a few for me will ya!! I have not been able to purchase any GG-1s on the "bay" for under 230.00 so how are you finding them??!! Please let me know the next time you find one you already have so that I can take a shot at it. I am up to 22 now and have another in my sites but no where near the prices you are talking about.
Thanks, Alan |
