That's all.
Most cellphones can take digital photos. Post a photo and you'll sell your items faster. end of rant.

This has been brought up a few times. I'm to the point where I skip over those W/O photos. Part #'s mean very little to me. What gets me is when they say they'll email photos on request. Big deal - post them with the ad and be done with it. Mad

Much of what I sell on the forum (quite successfully, I might add), is "New in Box," and when I specify new-in-box that's just what I mean. I don't mean "removed from box for a photo and then repackaged." I agree that anything used or in lesser-than-brand-new condition should be pictured, if possible, but for some sellers even that may not be possible, for one reason or another.

I've had very good success selling on the forum. Never posted a photo and also never had a complaint.

If an item doesn't sell in a couple of weeks or so, I just delete the ad (unless someone has already posted a response) and store the item away for a period of a year or so and then try again. To this point, everything I have tried to sell has eventually sold. Of course, my ridiculously low pricing also helps. Smile

Allan, gents like you and number of others I've come to trust and have and will continue to take your word. It's the other 80% that I'm not so sure about. Big Grin

and how would one go about gaining your trust? How would I know if I was part of the "......other 80%?
That's a fair question. I see that most of your posts are on the Real Train forum which I don't visit very often. That's my fault as I tend to use the 3 Rail forum 99% of the time so that's where I form my judgement in addition to reading one's profile. Likewise I'm sure that I'm also part of the 80%. Thanks for asking the question.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with that type of attitude? Must be coincidence? A misunderstanding on everyone else's part??

"Mr. Boy Scout" - thanks. I consider that a compliment. Actually no one is on my ignore list. That's not my style. I will admit however, that I very seldom reply to topics that start out with a "What If" type question although I do find most of them entertaining.

If the photo posting process wasn't so stupidly cumbersome, requiring a tutorial, then maybe more sellers would post photos. I can post on Photobucket, eBay, but not OGR!!!

If you're breathing and can attain verticality, everything else is a minor annoyance. MVS.

Don't follow the tutorial. If you have photobucket it's simple...copy and paste.

Copy the URL.... place the cursor where you want it in your post...hit paste.

Takes 2 seconds. Smile

Pardon me for my age and lack of computer shills. I don't have a teenager to help either!
Why are the photo requirements for only 'slightly less' than the VGA setting on every digital camera I've ever owned so that I still have to somehow 're-size' them to begin the process? Wouldn't be better to up the allowed size a bit to eliminate a step?
Again, this is probably child's play for many of you but after several attempts to post photos to the forum I quit!
We have a layout under construction and would be interested in posting occasionally...

The reasoning behind the 640x480 size is for people with dial-up connections and/or smaller monitors. With a 15" screen anything larger, you have to scroll back and forth to see. At that size it fits comfortably on the screen.

I always shoot my pictures at the largest size. With photobucket you can set it to upload the pictures at 640x480 without doing anything. The originals are, of course, saved on your hard drive (or where ever you want them).

If you can post on Photobucket, then you can post here. All of my photos are there and are easily used on various forums.

See Vulcan's posts for basic instructions --> very simple

As for not having a teenager to hold one's hand through the process; mine was most impressed that old Dad had a Photobucket account and could use it all by himself, so it really can't be very hard to do.....

Is it real? Do you see it, too? We all see it. That don't make it real.

Paperboys, you do realize that to post photos on the forum, they have to be hosted on a photo hosting site? This is not just for re-sizing. Photos posted here are actually just links to that site. The OGR photo album is working as just such a site, though I recommend using another, such as photobucket.

You can not post a photo from your hard drive.

This is common with any forum I'm a member of, not just OGR.

I think flickr is by far the easiest image hosting site to use for OGR. The steps are simple (given you have the materials):

1. Take photo on digital camera

2. Plug camera into computer and drag and drop photos into another file

3. Go to flickr and press UPLOAD PHOTOS AND IMAGES

4. Select what you want out of the file.

5. Copy and paste the photo URL to the image tab in the posting window.

Done. Over-simplified yes, but the instructions in the tutorial are easy too Smile
