While I think most of the time it's unnecessary to quote as often as folks do, sometimes on a lengthy topic it does serve a purpose.

However, it doesn't have to include all the photos the original poster provided.

Is there anyway the admins can limit the quote to only the words or at least prompt the poster to choose if he wants to include the whole thing before he hits the "Post Now" button?

There's always the delete button people can use to eliminate the photos before they hit "Post Now", but apparently it doesn't work on some computers Roll Eyes

(OK, let me sit down so I can get ready for all the folks who respond and quote what I just said)

I agree. It's especially frustrating on Sunday photo fun. Waiting for the photo's to load, sometimes 3 or 4 different times on the same page, gets old.

Bob,

ROTFLMAO!

Is it real? Do you see it, too? We all see it. That don't make it real.

Plus we have those who don't realize that they can delete a thread they start by mistake (if no one else has posted a response yet.) They usually start a new thread saying please ignore the above thread which, of course, doesn't remain "above" it for very long.

I also like the "helpful" people who respond to one of those threads started by accident. They sort of say, "You could delete this thread yourself, you know, if I hadn't just responded to it." Smile

How to educate the forum user is an interesting and impossible task. I'm glad my career was in teaching kids and not adults! Big Grin

Teaching pigs to fly and horses to talk is more rewarding, Jim.

Since I am fairly dense, would someone be kind enough to help me figure out how to do the quote thing. I can get as far as seeing the quote words at the start and end of my reply box. Step by step from the beginning would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for you time. Maybe I missed it in the help box but it did not stand out for me. WB

wb,
When you press the folder icon with the double quote marks, that entire post is placed in your reply box. Go back and use your delete key to remove what you don't want reprinted in your own reply. Just don't touch the word "quote" or any of the other brackets/symbols at the beginning or the end.

Photos are the lines with [img] at each end. Just remove the line with the image to prevent images from reappearing. If you want only a certain image, count the [img] lines and the photos to see which corresponds to which.

When you type your own reply, do it outside of the quote. Otherwise it will be very difficult for a reader to figure out what part is yours and what part is the original quote.

If your reply is immediately after the post you are commenting on, the quote is not necessary. Only quote if there have been several comments posted and you want to make it clear to whom you are replying. That seems sensible to me anyway! Smile

Hope this helps,
Jim
