I would like to request that the Webmaster consider adding two new forums under the Control Systems heading:
1. "DCC": DCC is the most widely used command control system -- it is not only standard in HO, but is the defacto standard for all 2 rail systems of whatever scale and gauge, including S and 0 narrow gauge. It is the standard for the two leading manufacturers of 2 rail 0 scale models. The announced availability of MTH 0 ga locomotives that are DCC compatible should only increase interest in DCC.

2. "General" [ or some similar title ]: This category would have the questions and comments that apply to more than one form of command control, and that are now dispersed amongst the other forums:
a) An introduction to command control concepts
b) Interoperability of the various systems
c) Discussions on the advantages or disadvantages when comparing the various control systems, etc

With best regards, SZ

It seems only natural that this system should have it's own section. I would support this to simply learn more about DCC.

I'll add my vote for a DCC forum, and thank the webmaster for the opportunity to advocate the addition.

You can depend on my vote also. I'd love to learn more about DCC. When DCC made its debut in HO I was switching over to O-gauge. Now my wife and daughter want to add a G-Scale Garden Railroad.

Since DCC is rarely used for O gauge 3-rail, I am wondering why a DCC topic cannot just be incorporated as a thread in the 2 rail scale forum.

This forum has only 5% of the posts of the 3-rail forum now.

It is also used in On30 and On3. These modelers would also benefit from a DCC forum.

Largely because in most of the DCC posts in the 2-rail scale board, there's always someone that comes along and derails the topic into a debate over DCC vs. DCS. And frankly, I'm tired of it.

So add my vote as well for a DCC-only board.

I guess a DCC only board would be nice but the topic is covered pretty well covered in the 2 RAIL SCALE & the ON30 NARROW GAUGE forums. Personally I'd rather see the bandwidth used for a Photography Board which would benefit everyone but that isn't likely to happen either.

Designating a board as DCC only doesn't guarantee that somebody favoring a different system won't stop by just to pick a fight. Ask the 3RS guys what happens periodically over there on that board. Smile

Agreed, Jim; that's one of the reasons I am also proposing a 'General Command Control' forum -- the intermural fights can go there, hopefully. Posters on the DCC board expounding a different system would be politely referred to that forum.

Then perhaps we need a forum named after the Itchy and Scratchy cartoon that appears on the Simpsons from time to time with the following theme song:

We fight, we fight, we fight fight fight, fight fight fight, the Itchy and Scratchy show!

How about a "conventional control" forum? It is still the one most widely used.

Dale,

I can hardly disagree with you as I run mainly conventional at home and still run pure DC for HO and my beginners 2R 0 track. However, it is interesting that no one seems to as venomous in their attacks when it comes to good old reliable conventional control compared to the kind of fights that break out over the whole TMCCLegacyDCSDCC debate. Every control system has it's value, but when I ask a straight forward AC or DC transformer to track issue, there are a plethora of real and decent answers.

I am still interested in DCC as it is a universal open standard across many scales and I am considering going that route for all my trains. There are few places to open this discussion without the foamers jumping in a telling you what a bad decision you are making. A forum dedicated to the digital command system with the largest following (all scales included) would be a boost to both the OGR forum and to hobbyists as a whole.

Of course my 2 cents only, which adjusted for market forces comes out to about 1.13 cents.

I still enjoy conventional control quite a bit.

I can't add much to this, but I will surely read a DCC foum section if it materializes.

The only reason I suggest it is that conventional does not need special wiring techniques. A lot of newer posters ask the same basic questions over and over. A separate wiring forum may make things easier to find. Most common questions are voltage drop on track, how to wire crossing gates, what gauge wire to use etc. The command systems have separate considerations and signal issues.

Dale,

Makes sense to me. I wonder if perhaps a "sticky thread" section for model railroading basics would be another alternative? Just thinking out loud, but if there were a section for those repetitive questions that we all answer several times, it might be very, very helpful to both newcomers and regular posters. Having a consistent location to reference things would certainly help me.
