I think it's a natural fit. I see more and more 3 railers inluding myseft fitting on30 right into their 3 rail pike. I could spend a lot of time on an 0n30 forum.

I agree. I think a spot on the forum for narrow gauge would be great.

I have been thinking of bringing this up. Yes this is a great idea.

If I reject reality and substitute 3-Rail, how does Narrow Gauge come into all of this?

Currently over on the two rail forum, 0n30 is discussed pretty regularly.

Not many 0n3 people though. Perhaps your ideas may attract more.

Not a bad suggestion! Of course, I'm a bit biased since I'm an On30 and narrow gauge railroading fan myself! Big Grin

Agreed. A narrow gauge forum would be excellent, in light of the very nice and affordable products offered by Bachmann/Spectrum and other new players.

Let's create a narrow gauge forum!!!! On30, On3 and On20.

Webmaster,
This post seems to have run it's cycle. Therefore, I ask it be deleted since the Narrow Gauge thread is doing better.

Don't give up on it, Al! The horse ain't dead yet! Wink

We're kind of up to our ears in separate forums now, but it seems to me if a new one was to be added at some point, or if an existing and not-often-frequented forum was to be replaced, a narrow gauge forum covering On30, On3, and On2 would be a very logical choice. After all, the various narrow gauge affiliated groups on Yahoo (with an O scale orientation) have a combined membership of around 3,000 or so.

Patience, my fellow narrow gauge fan! Smile

Allan,
O.K. I will hang loose, and depend on you to decide what is best. Are you swamped with the cute Christmas Kids pictures.

Allan,
It has been a while since I checked this thread so forgive the delay. Yes, Sn3, Sn42 or any S narrow gauge should be welcome. We share many techniques and ideas, the difference is only in the siza of our trains.

Confused you fellas should worry about getting good posts (product reviews, how-tos, and the like) saved before you add ANOTHER category to the growing list of untrafficed threads. the s gauge section has seen about as much action as an unhappy marriage ... perhaps one should think about combining s gauge with the other various narrow versions into one "OTHER GAUGE" heading. pehaps combining announcements and suggestions is a good move as well.

but to use the "no bandwith" argument time and again to knee-cap the idea of saving important threads and then to consider adding ANOTHER category to the mix is madness allan ... MADNESS!

no offense narrow gauge dudes ... just trying to understand the mixed up logic here.

thanks al! i sure hope i didnt come across as too much or a jerk, i'm not upset with anyone for wanting their interests represented but at some point logic and reason dictate the best course of action. as you said, i think a section labeled "other gauges" would best serve all the diversity of interest here without taking up more space.

I support the suggestion of adding an "All-Scales Narrow Gauge Forum", and would appreciate that getting done. I run DCC On30 as Sn42 on my othewise mostly Legacy controlled standard gauge "S" layout.

Hello Sgaugian,
Glad to hear from another limb of the narrow gauge tree. Do you have any pics to post? Are you kitbashing engines and rolling stock, or using Sn3 rolling stock with ON30 trucks? Tell us what your doing on the Narrow Gauge thread in the two rail forum if you wish to share. Have a good evening.

Allan, we are still waiting for our narrow gauge forum!

I see the 3RS forum has been set up and so far those folks seem to be just as happy as if they had good sense. It is very interesting reading the posts about what should and should not be allowed.

I'm still waiting, too, Al! Smile

But I'm doing my part to illuminate the narrOw gauge scene in the magazine (with other special areas to follow). I think/hope you'll like the Oct. issue.

Allan,
I think you are doing a great job with the magazine and I alway look forward to reading each issue. I know you have limited space and have to be quite choosy on what you pick for the content. But, I feel you and OGR does a great job of presenting good low budget articles that appeal to me and others. IMHO I feel your competitor C** leans toward the megabuck layouts, custom built by pros and out of reach for a lot of us. Or think of it this way, our 4 or 5 year old fords compared to their new cadillacs.
Okay, that is my rant for the day.
Again, thanks for your efforts.
Al

Hopefully, the October OGR narrow gauge issue will stir up some more interest in this area - maybe even enough here on the forum to warrant a separate topic.

Jim, wasn't your ON30 addition to your layout featured in one of the mags a few years ago. Seems like this layout used Atlas HO flex, a Bachmann 2-6-0 and a few freight cars. Or it just my old mind doing it's normal abnormal thing?

Al,
This is the first time it's been in a magazine. It may have been mentioned in the publicity leading up to the 2006 LOTS convention when I was on the layout tour.

Or maybe it was in a post on the forum here?

By the way, I am very familiar with the memory (or lack thereof) thing!!!

Jim,
It must have been someone's article in that other magazine.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Having a narrow gauge forum makes more sense to me than the 3RS forum, It is a much more clearly defined niche. While I also like old S gauge, not many S gaugers have found their way here (could the name "O Gauge Railroading Forum" have something to do with that?).

If a Narrow Gauge Forum was created, could the narrow gauge thread in the 2R forum be transfered into it. We have a lot of pics and information accumulated and it would be nice to keep it. Have you noticed we seem to have a calmer and helpful attitude than those 3RS guys. A person can stop having fun when they are more interested in details.

Allan Miller, is it possilbe to transfer threads?
