Yes, a partially seized motor. Repair shop did not replace anything just lube. Now it runs great. My linkages were all OK.

As I understand it, many of these locomotives (at least 8 in the store I bought mine from) were found to need lubrication of the bushings right out of the box or this binding occured. I tested two myself and heard that binding or grinding noise. After this was problem was taken care of, I have been quite happy with my piper for over a year now.

Mine did the same thing--I sent it back and they lubricated it and it has run like a champ ever since.
