Now that the Brute has hit the streets it is time to move on to the super 381E.
My question is how does it look compared to a 381E. I read it is 9 inches longer and has 2 motors. I guess this means another wheel set to make it a 4-4-4-4.
Will the cab be stretched a little longer along with the hoods or does it end up being articulated?

Will it be to long for State cars?

Hopefully, the next post will be Joes' 381 in front of Lionel sign.

The articulation question is a good one. From the photos I have seen, it does not appear to be articulated. Confused Smile

At least it would match the state cars, being a standard gauge engine!

MTH should offer the Super 381 in both state brown and green. Smile

I would buy the State Brown.
Do not forget Milwaukee Road and Harley Davidson colors.

I opted for the green Brute to pull my six green state cars.

Yeah, I know about the probable size mismatch! Big Grin

Probably would buy a green S381! Smile

NOTE: Don't have the $$$$ to buy a five-car Milwaukee set. Might have to get a set of larger green state-style cars to go behind the Brute! Eek

It does not articulate. Both of the originals were in our store right after Don LaSpaluto originaly bought them many years ago.

One power truck or more like the Rich-Art Bipolar? The existing 381 is very slippery. Traction tires and weights anyone?

Thanks Joe, now I remember what it looked like. I do like it more than the Brute. But the thought of what the massive size of a string of passenger cars being behind the Brute is something I'd like to see.

The NEW Brute-size passenger cars are rumored to be included in the February "Lionel Corporation Tinplate" catalog, along with a state brown "Super 381". Cost per passenger car: $550-600 each. The "Super 381" will be about $1200.

OUCH! 600 bucks apiece is going to be too rich for me to put a consist together. Guess this will separate the men from the boys.

A livable price point although expensive compared to a dual motored 408E. I will order a two-tone Brown.

BTW Joe, yesterday I ordered a Lionel sign just like yours on E-bay.
Art, I remember now the caption said: 3 sets of hands were holding "The Brute"

DITTO, O U C H ! Closing on the new house will be in December, moving money, how long will it take to sell this place? I'm gonna' pass on the Brute for now knowing I won't be able to live without the cars. Think I'll wait and go with the Super 381.
