HI,

I was helping a friend prepare for a move, she'd been telling me for years about the train in the basement, and she sent me home with a #2 Lionel Standard Gauge trolley! Any idea on value in case she decides to have me sell it for her? Typical of the era (1915 +/-) the paint is flaking pretty badly but overall looks pretty good sitting on display in my living room. Any advice?

Thanks,
Tim

WOW! The #2 Lionel Trolley is a great find. Based on David Doyle's guide, its production run was from 1906 through 1916. In very good shape its worth between $1,000 to $1,200. Of particular note is the stamping on the side of the trolley. The common stamping is "No. 2 Electric Rapid Transit No. 2". However, if yours has "No.2 Edmondson Ave. No. 2", then you have a museum piece! Either way, early trolleys are highly collectible. If you could post a few pics, that always helps, but by your brief description, I would think that you could count on something in the ballpark of $1,000 if it can still run and the stamping is still visible. They simply don't come up that often and given that you know its ownership history will really help get a higher price. Others may disagree, but in my experience, prewar trolleys in decent condition command a premium price. Its a wonderful piece of Lionel history so I'd treat it with great care. Again, any pictures would be really helpful and I'm sure others would love to see it (I know I would!).

WOW!! You can't do much better than an early Lionel trolley! An AWESOME discovery! Smile

Even JLC had a particular fondness for his early trolleys! Smile

HI Guys,

I tried to post photos per instructions elsewhere in the forum but no luck with the initial upload. Sorry.

Could you post them on a different site, and then post a link?
