Wow, I've read about this set, but have never seen one come up for sale. Should be interesting watching the big boys throw their bids in at the end.

The Southern Pacific and Baldwin had several trains full of 2-10-2's from plant to SP in the 1930's. These trains ran in the Depression. Marketing toll between SP and Baldwin.

Tim,
Original 'Ives Prosperity Special' sets generally go for astronomical prices if and when they do come up for auction. Recently, I had the good fortune to purchase an MTH reproduction set from a fellow member of this forum, which I think is equal to or better than the original set in that I can operate it all day long without anything going wrong. The motor in the engine of the MTH version is absolutely 'bullet proof' and I especially like the idea of not having to worry about breaking anything on an $5000+ original set. |

About 30 years ago I visited a collector in the Baltimore area and he showed me a "Prosperity Special" that he got in a garage sale for Seventy-five US dollars. Ron M |
