I wonder what happened to the layout and trains. Hopefully they went to someone in his family or friend that appreciates them and honors this great man and his passion for trains.

Scott,
I wonder if Tom McComas might know the answer? Perhaps an e-mail might work! Just a thought! cordially, Dennis |

I don't know but that was an awesome layout.

The Tom Snyder layout DVD by Tom McComas is probably my most played toy train video!
Tom was a great broadcaster (the term he preferred), and a great toy train hobbyist, and he is missed! Art Poole |

I just purchase the celebrity layout DVD as well as the Christmas Memories DVD and now you have me wanting to pop in the Tom Snyder one ASAP. I finished Sinatra last night.
I am new to the hobby and still invision a high-rail layout but darn do I love the character that the standard guage tinplates have. I am planning on a getting a set for under the tree this year. - Ed TCA & MTHRRC |

A great broadcaster, he was! Especially when compared to the nonsense of the late night fools like Conan O'Brian. Tom Snyder exuded class as a human being and is missed.

Incredible, incredible layout. Gives me even more of an appreciation for standard guage tinplate. I do hope it went to a good home. He had quiet a passion for his trains.

Ed,
That "just one Standard Gauge set" is a very, very slippery slope.... Many of us are still enjoying the fall, which seems to have no end in sight... Enjoy! cordially, Dennis |

I have one more giant box of modern O gauge (the really good stuff) to sell before I am 99.9% tinplate. So far the switch has been well worth it! Just a tinplate nut... © 2008 Scott K. What, you saying I can't just buy one set? - Ed TCA & MTHRRC |

Tom Snyder was a great broadcaster because he was a great person. He was interested in getting to know other people through conversation. He let us all in on it and thereby get to know his guests and himself as well. Somewhere there is the finest late night lineup ever on the air, Tom Snyder, Johnny Carson, Steve Allen and Jack Parr. Can't wait to see what Tom, Johnny and Steve do next time Jack says "there's got to be an easier way...."
Meanwhile I'm left to watch some bozo put his Harvard education to work telling #*^@ jokes that weren't funny in Jr High. The Snyder layout video really helped get me interested in pre-war trains. So far I have stuck to O gauge reproductions. But watching that video one more time might make me have to get a 390 or 400E. |

Anyone know what type of figures were featured on Tom Snyder's beautiful layout? They seemed highly detailed and complimented the layout very well imo.

I'm thinking Woodland Scenics and Preiser in G-scale but may be way off...

I was just at my LHS and saw some new figures (new to me, at least) called "Just Plain Folks." You may want to check them out! In addition check out this review of figures for G scale and Standard Gauge click here.

I stopped by the TM Video both at York to ask. The layout is still there and his wife is looking at options for it. One that is being considered is donating it to the California RR Museum. Breakdown, transportation, and setup are the biggest obsticals at this time. - Ed TCA & MTHRRC |

I really hope it gets donated to the California RR Museum. Thanks!

Tom was great - really a class act. I used to watch his show every night years ago. One night he would have on Alfred Hitchcock and another night it would be KISS or some band I never heard of. He was always entertaining and had a great time on the air, too. I have this dvd as well, and it is also one of my favorites, although I have no Standard Gauge as of yet. Maybe one day! Anyway, I hope that they do keep the collection together. Considering the amount of work that went into it and that it was so modular in original construction, I hope they are able and willing to give it to a museum or someone buys it and puts it on display as a unit.

BOTH Tom and his trains/layout were CLASS ACTS!

One thing that often gets overlooked is that when a layout is donated a a sizable monetary donation must be included for upkeep and R&M. If not, chances are the layout will not be accepted even as a donation.

I certainly hope that the layout finds a good, safe "home" in a Museum, such as the California RR Museum, as noted by Ed, above. Too bad some of the TV personalities don't have a "call-in" show for donations. With some of the things that pass for entertainment on Television these days, such a public service effort would certainly be well received in many quarters. cordially, Dennis ![]() |

Give Jay Leno a call. He is a historian of popular culture, especially transportation themed items like Harley Davidsons and Lamborghinis and electric trains, too.
Maybe he could take an interest in the Snyder setup because of its provenance and impact in the hobby. RR forever Rocky, watching in shock and awe |

I like Ward Kimball's directive to his family before his death..."put them back in the hands of Collectors"...and so it was done through 2 colossal auctions in Philadelphia, Pa...Perhaps Tom's trains will trickle down to some of us!!! Ron Blume, TCA73-5903. |
